It is almost certain that young players enjoy playing soccer the most when they are able to score maximum goals. When planning your practice schedule, you can include youth soccer drills that offer numerous opportunities to players to score goals.
Let them take advantage of all opportunities during small sided games, full field scrimmages, and shooting drills. In kids soccer drills, keep on varying the procedures in small sided games and full field scrimmages with a view to encourage players to score more.
It also works to practice games that don’t need a goalkeeper or where goalie’s participation can be restricted within limits. You can add more goals or widen the ones that are previously in use for the purpose of enhancing the chances of scoring more goals.
The chances of improved goal scoring can be experienced when the young players become experts in shooting techniques and its strategic knowledge. Like passing skills, players should be educated on shooting techniques early in their career. These can be then emphasized more strongly at the later stages of a player’s development.
In relation to youth soccer practice, performing drills is the most efficient method of improve player’s shooting skills. With a view to score goals efficiently, players should perform shooting drills and develop their shooting skills. However, make sure that your player’s develop their shooting skills gradually.
Following series can be incorporated in youth soccer drills to make them suitable for developing player’s shooting drills;
1. Stationery player shooting a static ball.
2. Stationery ball being shot by a moving player.
3. A stationary player shooting a moving ball.
4. Moving player shooting a moving ball.
In youth soccer coaching, players should be taught how to strike the ball properly while shooting. Most players have the habit of taking shots from a close range and the inside of their feet. This has the effect of enhancing the shooting accuracy.
In situations when a lot more power is required, the players should be trained to use the instep of their foot to strike the ball. Their toes should point downwards and the ankles must be locked.
The elevation of the shoot is affected by the placement of the non-kicking foot. Instruct the players to place their non-kicking foot slightly away from the ball. This will keep the shot to the ground. Make sure that the players are focused on striking the ball. You can remove all the distracting equipment such as players and balls so that they focus better.
As shooting techniques improve, keep on adding to the level of difficulty in the practice games. For example; when their shooting competence improves, serve balls at various levels and speed.
